movies in 2007 - a relook

Date August 17, 2007

This year was supposedly the year of the sequels and I was very much excited about some of the movies 6 months back. Now looking back, I feel only a couple of movies out of that list were enjoyable. Spiderman 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End were duds. Shrek 3 was okey-dokey. By the time Ocean’s 13 was released, it was a refreshing change compared to the 3 movies that were released earlier, though it doesn’t come close to Ocean’s 11.

Now you have Rush Hour 3 which is again neither too good or too bad. The moment you know the movie is a sequel, you have a feeling it was only meant to be a cash cow and movies like these only affirm the same. The plot is predictable and Jackie Chan’s getting a bit old but you gotta say he’s very much agile. Chris tucker is his usual self.

I am yet to see Ratatouille, Zodiac and The Bourne Ultimatum as they still haven’t been released in India. All 3 have been critically acclaimed and I hope they make up for the lack of entertaining movies that were released in the last 6 months.

Here’s my opinion on the films you mentioned:

    # Ratatouille - Yet to see it. But have been told it’s good.

    # Rush Hour 3 - Hated it. An insult to intelligence. Comedy at it’s worst. Actually walked out of the theatre before half time.

    # Zodiac - Didn’t see it & am SO MIFFED about it. Was trying to catch it for days couldn’t get my schedule fixed & then when I finally reached the theatre it was out :( Will def get the DVD)

    # The Bourne Ultimatum - Not out yet. But like you, am also waiting. Loved earlier parts. And Matt Damon :)
    # Ocean’s 13 - Loved it! Incredibly funny!

    # Shrek 3 - Well I know others didn’t think much of it, but I enjoyed it a lot. Especially since I had a crazy loud laughing person next to me!

    # Spider-Man 3 - Good I think. A bit bollywoodish towards the end but still, since I like the series, I enjoyed it.

    # Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End - Very very very sad. Completely un-understandable. Too many elements, too much craziness happening. I really was looking forward to this & it was quite a disappointment.

Thanks for stopping by Melody :)

Zodiac hasn’t come to theatres in Bangalore and I am not sure if its gonna be released here. So I might have to catch it only on DVD like you.

I like Matt too. So would def watch Bourne Ultimatum.

Ratatouille is playing this week. I hope I get tickets.
