Golden Globes - 2007

The Golden Globes were out yesterday. These awards are a precursor to the Academy Awards which usually happens in February or March of every year.

One of my fav movies of last year was ‘The Departed‘ featuring a stellar cast of Leonardo Dicaprio, Matt Damon and Mark Wahlberg and directed by the famed director Martin Scorsese. It was nominated in 5 categories and sadly won only one award.

I was hoping Dicaprio would get a globe as he was nominated in 2 movies - The Departed and Blood Diamond - under the same category but it just didn’t happen. The Departed didn’t win the Best Picture award also but I’m happy Scorsese won the best director for the same movie. Check out the nominations and the awards here.

If these awards are an indication of how the Oscars could end up this year, i would be having mixed feelings. Dicaprio is such an amazing actor and both his performances this year have been awesome to say the least. He deserves an academy award this year at least just like Scorsese does. Hope it doesn’t turn out to be a bummer like last year.
