Trip to Kumbakonam
April 14, 2006
Am back after quite some time. As you would have noticed by now, I had been to Kumbakonam with my parents, sis and a buddy of mine. We had a great trip though we had to reduce it by a day or so due to the intolerable heat in and around Kumbakonam. Nonetheless, we were able to cover all the temples we had in mind before we set forth for the trip.
I shall upload some snaps in a separate post. Whenever i visit these mammoth temples, am stuck with awe and admiration looking at the architecture and I also tend to forget myself for a while when am inside the ’sanctum sanctorum’.
We covered around 10 temples in a space of 1.5 days and out of this, i had already visited 3 temples around 3.5 years back when we had gone on a similar trip when i was going through a bad patch personally then. Now, going to the same places with a relaxed frame of mind with the intention of thanking Him for his blessings is something which cannot be described in words.
We then went to my dad’s native town and he showed us the school where he studied, which was real far from his house. He told us that he used to walk daily to school to which my sis quipped ‘if i had been in your shoes, i probably wouldnt have studied’. Come to think of it, we probably are a far lot better now than our parents were then but we still do not realize how much they would’ve struggled to make it to where they are now.
We also met a couple of my dad’s childhood friends in his native town. Am talking about his friends from school about 40 years back. They were too happy to see him as much as he was to see them. One of them told me ‘We sure had a great time back then. Those were the days!’ I was able to relate to it completely. Even now, when my friends and i talk about our school days, we say ‘those were the days’ though it would’ve been 10 years back.
After an eventful holiday, i came back with lots of memories to savor from this trip as usual …

Heya
Glad to hear you had a good family trip.
we probably are a far lot better now than our parents were then but we still do not realize how much they would’ve struggled to make it to where they are now. So true. Let’s hope our kids understand this at least

Hey Melody, good to hear from you
So true. Let’s hope our kids understand this at least
I guess they’d also realize this a bit late just like we did
