Brokeback Mountain
March 19, 2006

Enough has been said about ‘Brokeback Mountain‘ that I am wondering if I have anything more to add here. I happened to watch it last weekend and though it is a good movie I was kinda disappointed. The hype and the hoopla surrounding it had raised my expectation levels but it fizzled out a bit by the time I completed watching it.
The film was supposedly shot in Alberta, Canada and the photography is just breathtaking. The background music is worth mentioning and so are performances of Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal.
However, the movie moves at a sluggish pace which tests your patience. I went with a buddy of mine and he almost slept through the second half of the movie. I wasn’t able to relate to the movie that much (no surprises here
) and maybe because of that wasn’t able to appreciate the so-called “meaningful silences” between Heath and Jake.
The bottomline is though ‘Brokeback Mountain‘ is worth watching once, I am glad ‘Crash‘ won the Oscar for the best movie this year.

You can safely skip this movie without feeling bad about it
Try to watch ‘Crash’ if you can.
