The Shawshank Redemption
September 9, 2005

It has been 10 years since the critically acclaimed movie ‘The Shawshank Redemption’ based on Stephen King’s short story was released. I had the privilege of watching it only a month back after having heard a lot about it. This post is not a complete review of the movie and there are no ’spoiler warnings’ either.
The protagonist of this movie is Andy, a banker played by Tim Robbins, who is sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife and her paramour. However, Andy is the only person who knows that he didn’t commit the crimes. He is sent to Shawshank prison, a sick place on which the movie is entirely based upon.
There, he befriends “Red”, played by Morgan Freeman, who incidentally etches a very fine role. “Red” has been in the prison for many years and is an expert in smuggling things to prisoners from outside. The camaraderie between Andy and “Red” is one of the highlights of the movie.
‘The Shawshank Redemption’ does a very good job of depicting the way by which Andy gets used to the prison and befriends other prisoners by means of filing tax returns. improving the prison library and so on. Over the years he gains the respect of most of the prisoners and guards alike.
The main theme of the movie is hope and the climax is proof to that. It’s a pity that this movie didn’t get an Oscar though it was nominated for 3 Oscars. One more reason to my firm belief that the Oscars are rigged most of the times.
Overall a must watch and a feel good movie which has been beautifully crafted. No wonder, ‘The Shawshank Redemption’ has made it to the top of my all time favourites list ![]()

Shriram.. thanks very much for dropping by my blog.
In relation to one of your previous posts on moving from Blogger to WP - I didn’t bother to take the trouble as I felt that it wd be cumbersome and left my old blog as it is and started afresh. In my case, my old blog had comments in Backblog and not on Blogger.. that gave me 1 more reason to leave it that way!

Thanks for dropping by here Chakra
The script that I was talking about in one of my posts copied both posts as well as comments from blogger. So i think you’ve made the right decision by not importing the posts as the same script might not have worked for Backblog comments !
