Customizing my WordPress theme
August 25, 2005
Slowly but steadily I am trying to change the look and feel of my theme. After quite a bit of image editing, I have managed to change the header image file to what it is now. I hope the railroad picture looks a bit colorful than the original one which came with the theme
I have also changed a few other files whose changes aren’t as prominent as the header file changes at the first glance. I still have lots to do and I’ve listed some of my TO-DO’s here in no particular order.
-
- Pen my profile
- Activate the links found in the header image.
- Have a contact form for anyone to contact me
- Customize this theme a bit more
I’ll definitely do these one by one as and when I find time …

Hi!
I’m in the exact same position as you, having moved from Blogger to WP in the last few weeks. I’m also planning to totally revamp the connections template on my site, starting with changing the header image! Have you got any tips on how to do this, was it quite simple to do or really fiddly? And what program did you use to do it? I know the header is quite complex and you have to leave space for the links etc, if you have any advice that would be great. Thanks.

Hi Vicky !
Thanks for dropping by
If you want to start with the header image, then you should edit the ‘top.jpg’ that comes with the theme.
You can use any image editor like photoshop or paintshop pro to do the trick. You can also use windows paint just like I did
its not too difficult. You just have to make sure you don’t paste on the borders that are already there.

Cool! Thanks
I noticed a few people have managed to alter the colour of the bar where the links sit, without disturbing the rest of the header. I guess that’ll be my next challenge… Thank you for your help, and nice blog by the way! xxx

Thanks for the blog comment
As far as I know, the header image doesn’t have links embedded in it. So you can edit it directly without having to leave some space for the links. The links are actually present in the ‘header.php’ file(which puts the links on top of the image).
