Awesome fotos! Is Atharampally nearby Vaalparai, Ooty and all? how long does it take to reach there? the waterfall looks absolutely gorgeous..:)

  2. Shriram said:

    Thanks a lot :)

Athirapally is located in Chalakudi, Kerala. The shortest (and easiest) route from Coimbatore is via Palakkad, Thrissur. The falls is around 65 kms from Thrissur.

There is also another longer, awesome (but rather arduous) route via Pollachi, Valparai, Sholayar and Athirapally.

We took the latter route !

Wow! Athirapally is one of my dream destinations:D What a falls!

    Hi Sateesh,

We didnt stay overnight at Valparai.
Am sure there are many hotels in Valparai though coz we had lunch at one such hotel.

Am afraid i cant give you much more info on this :(

    Dear Shriram,

We are planning for a trip to Athirappali falls. We were unaware of a route existing between Valpari and Athirapalli. Does it join the road which originates from Pollachi, goes through Topslip, Perambikulam, Athirapally and finally reaches Chalakudi?

I would like to know more info about this route? Do you mind being contacted by me regarding this?

Please give your contact details to me, if you do not mind.

    Thanks,
    Narayanan (SendtoNarayanan@gmail.com) (09444991270)

    Dear Narayanan,

    Thanks for stopping by.

There is in fact a route from Valparai to Athirapalli and it is one heck of a route :)
It starts from Pollachi, goes to Valparai, Sholayar Dam and then to Athirapalli. It doesn’t go via Topslip or Parambikulam.

Hope this helps. Have a great trip and do let me know how it went :)

    Cheers,
    Shriram.

It is the most beautiful and naturistic route that one can ever see in our country. But the roads were really bad when we went there a couple of years back. Would like to check on the route condidion right now….
The road starts descending right from Valparai towards Thrissur. It is the shortest route that one can take between Valparai and Thrissur. But would take a longer time due to poor condition of the road. It is anyways worth taking it for the beauty that is a real treat to your eyes….

  11. shriram said:

@Diwa: It has been 3 years since i went there. So i am not sure how the roads are now. The route between Valparai and Thrissur is scenic to say the least and worth the time spent.

    Hi Shriram,

I’m a resident of Bangalore and planning to visit Valparai. It would be nice if you can share any info on current road conditions between:
    1. Coimbatore and Valparai, NH-209 (till Pollachi). What’s the distance like?
    2. Coimbatore and Salem, NH-47
    3. Coimbatore and Kollegal, NH-209 (Karnataka)

Also, any pointers on ‘must see’ places in and around Valparai, in order of your ratings will be very handy.

    Regards,
    Rishi

    Hi Rishi,

    Thanks for dropping in.

I think the Salem-Cbe NH 47 is undergoing a 4 lane transformation currently and so it would take a long time to reach via that route.

I suggest you take this route to Cbe from Blr.
Bangalore-Hosur-Palacode-Thoppur-Mettur-Andhiyur-Athani-Sathyamangalam-Coimbatore. This route is quite good to drive and there is not much of traffic as well.

From Mettur, there is another route to Cbe via Bhavani but you can skip that as the road b/w Sathy and Cbe is terrific.

From Cbe, it is 100kms to Valparai via Pollachi.

You might want to visit Solayar dam which is near Valparai and Balaji Temple in Valparai.

Have a great trip and please do update me on how it went :)

    Cheers,
    Shriram.

    Hi Shriram,

Thanks for a quick reply! that tempts me to ask few more questions:
    1. Any idea abt the Sathy road (condition) towards Chamrajnagar, Karnakata (NH-209). If its as good as that b/t Sathy and CBE then I’ll prefer taking that route from Bangalore.
    2. Is the route via Mettur that you pointed out well marked? Directions mainly, coz I dont understand Tamil, and there’ll be hardly anyone on road in middle of night to guide me. Do we have the median painted in the middle of road (what abt Sathy road)?
    3. Where do I take permissions to enter Grass Hills? Are 2-wheelers allowed inside the Eravikulam NP (yes, I ride a 5yr old Pulsar-150)?

    Regards,
    Rishi

    Hi Rishi,

    1. The Sathy road between Cbe and Dimbam is very good. However, once you cross the Karnataka border at Dimbam, the road deteriorates and you’ll have to put up with bad roads from Hasanur till Chamrajnagar and also from ChamrajNagar till Nanjangud. So be prepared for these 2 bad stretches.

    2. Until Mettur, you should not have a problem as the directions are well marked. The only place where you might face a problem is Ammapettai which is around 20 kms after Mettur. Once you reach this place, take a right turn towards Andhiyur.

    3. I am afraid I am not aware of Grass Hills.

    Cheers,
    Shriram.

what an anti-climax.. got to meet this guy in Mysore, so Chamrajnagar its going to be… :|
EDT Bangalore: 9PM IST. ETA Valparai: 9PM tomorrow. Hopefully, i’ll be able to make it thru in this much time… total ~480-500kms to be done. Valparai to Chennai, another ~600.. sounds interesting :-)

  19. shriram said:

oh. that really is an anti climax after you narrowed down on the other route. nonetheless, i think this is gonna be an exciting trip as you are gonna cover 1000 kms or even more.

do let me know how the trip went. wish you good luck :)
